Well, I have ONE more day left. It's just a teacher work-day to get organized and closed up! I keep telling myself, I can make it, I can make it!
I am starting to read this book this summer! I've been doing Daily 5 math and guided math groups for years. But, I always love a refresher.
So, I started chapters 1 & 2 this weekend and I have to say I LOVE this book. It would be super helpful to someone just starting guided math/math workshop!
Chapter 1 is titled Introduction and that is exactly what it is; a great introduction to guided math. If you can't read the whole book this one chapter will give you a great run-through of math workshop/guided math. What is really nice is that this chapter walks though what guided math looks like in a classroom, room 307.
There are 3 main parts to Math Workshop/Guided Math:
1. Mini-lesson
2. Student work time/guided math
3. Sharing at the end

The beliefs of Guided Math (as stated by the author, but I really think they do hold true) are:
*Students need to be met where they are (academically, behaviorally, etc.)
* Small group strategic teaching is the most effective in a diverse group (a classroom).
*Guided Math is a great way to facilitate math thinking and to boost feelings about math thinking!
This was such a great review/overview! I can't wait to talk about chapter 2.... A Numeracy Rich Environment!
